Annual 2012 Officers Meeting

Dear Officers:

GREAT NEWS! The 2012 golf season is about to begin! Of course, we begin the season with our annual officers meeting.

For those of you that feel the need, there will be an UNOFFICIAL winter meeting at Hooters on Monroe St., at 5:00pm on Saturday, February 11, 2012. I will, unfortunately, be unable to attend.

Therefore, we will have an OFFICIAL winter meeting which will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Frickers on Monroe St. in Sylvania. This is where all of the real decisions will be made.

We will go over the budget, and since we will review the entire rules set, I ask you to review last year’s rules for possible changes. You may bring up any rules or format changes either for the league or the special 4 man team nights, even if only for debate purposes.

A copy of last year’s rules can be found on our website.

Last year we had 16 members in the league. I have informed Giant Oaks that we currently plan to have 16-24 players. I can accommodate up to 36 players. If we have an odd number, I will bring back the proxy team of Thing 1 and 2. If you know anyone that would like to join the league, please give them my phone number and have them contact me right away!

Tee Times will be handled the same way as last year with 4-somes showing up early being aloud to play ahead in the order.

The League website is still active at: http://mngolf.blogspot.com - There is no cost for this site, other than my time to maintain it. If anyone has any suggestions on website improvements, I will entertain those suggestions at the meeting.

I have posted the final results of the first half for you to download and print (stats after june 30), and I have also posted the pairings for this weeks scrambles.

Additionally, I have made some remarks about our budget, because some people had some general questions about it, and I wanted to sum it up for everyone. In short, our budget is fine and on track, just as it is every year. I have tried to indicate where the money generally goes.

Also, Scott Pittman will be subbing for Mike Sr. this week, and his average has been figured into the pairings.

He did not sub last year either, so he would be considered a new player (or "newbie"... or "NOOB"). Tom did sub last year, so he has an average for this course. Rich Tank is also considered a new player with no average established.

We have had another change in the 2011 roster. Dan is unable to be Russ's partner this year. Instead, we would like to welcome Rich Tank to the league! Rich, if I spelled your name wrong, I'm sorry, but we will get it straight this week.

We would like to welcome a new member to our league - Dan Tutor! Dan is one of my friends and works at Home Depot on Airport Hwy. He is going to partner up with Russ this year. Good luck to this new team!

There are still some members that have not sent in their rsvp deposits. I am going to assume that these people are playing this year anyway, and I have completed the roster based on that.

A word about subs...

This year, the executive committee has decided that if a sub plays, then the sub pays. The sub fee is remaining a very reasonable $5. The sub MUST pay this amount, EACH time he plays, or forfeit being on the subs list. IF the sub does not pay, then the person who got the sub must pay.

Sub fees will be put towards the end of year prize fund.

Our pre-season Officers Meeting will be held on Sunday, February 13th, at 1:00pm. We will be meeting at Frickers in Sylvania. Please come prepared to review the rules, changes, issues, and discussions from the 2010 season.

No snail mail letter will be sent out this year to notify you of this meeting. If you are an officer, you will have received an email asking for your presence.

Greetings and welcome to the 2011 golf season!

As you can see, I've done some housekeeping, and have updated our league website. I hope you like the new look! I wanted to let everyone know that I will be sending out the letters for the Officers Meeting by the end of January. The meeting will be on our traditional Sunday afternoon, the week after the Superbowl.

It looks like we will be adding some players this year! Mike has indicated a two-some that is interested in joining. Additionally, I have gotten an email from Tom Tinta, indicating that he and John Meyers intend to re-join the league in 2011! We will most certainly welcome them back, along with any new players wishing to join as well.

I hope everyone has had a great holiday season, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

End of season outing

Yes, the season has come to an end! It's time for our outing and banquet. I've posted the pairings sheet over to the right, so if you want to see who you will be paired with, give it a click.

The outing is at 8am at Bedford Hills. We will be playing the Buckeye and Wolverine courses. The banquet will follow at Conn-Weisenberger - thanks again to Russ for all the hard work!

I have uploaded the latest and final stats sheet of the season. Thanks to Bob Johnson for handling things in my absence last week!

This week will be the championship match between Pat/Bob and Mike/Andy for the 2010 season - good luck and play well!

The rest of us will be playing a friendly stableford match. Just as a reminder- as I stated in the beginning of the season, the mid-season event would have a money payout, as well as the end-of-season 18 hole outing, but not this event this week. Normally, either the mid-season event OR this event would have a payout, but never both. However, I will look at the budget and see if I can squeek out some money for us. I would think we could all put a little more in the skins pot also if we wanted. The end-of-season event normally has the biggest payout of the season.

Due to time constraints, I will be posting the stableford pairings shortly (most likely tomorrow).

The end-of-season outing will be on Saturday, Sept. 18th at Bedford Hills. Tee time is 8am. Or banquet will follow at the usual place!

A note about the stats after July 8th

Because of the partial rain out, I have calculated the points based on a 6 hole round, and 6 total points, not 10. The stats sheet reflects the correct points to date, with the exception of the makeup round we are waiting on.
Additionally, individual averages will not change, and will remain the same.

Dave Johnson got the only payout, with $5 for long drive.

We are still waiting for the makeup round between Dale/Russ and Adam/Ryan. After that, all points should be up to date.

Just to update everyone -
This week is our mid season outing. It will be a standard scrambles format. The first two teams will receive prize money. The last two teams... well, good luck next time. We will also have our standard closest to the pin and long drive contests.

On another note, we have a player on the injured list - Ryan Held. Scott Pittman will take Ryan's place in the scrambles and also as Adam's partner for the next few weeks.

I have updated the online subs list file. Remember, for security reasons, you need to have the password to open this file. If you lost your password, email me and I will resend it to you.

Also, we still have some outstanding accounts (money due for league fees). I am usually lenient with this, but I would like to have all accounts cleared and closed up by mid season (that's in two weeks). If you still owe, please make an effort to get paid up. Thanks.

To everyone on the league -

My laptop has crashed. It appears to now be no better than an electronic cup holder. Fortunatly, I was smart enough to copy the league information off to a flash drive before it crashed. However, I have not had time to get the stats together for this weeks round.

Please be paitent - I may not be able to post them this week, but hope to have everything printed in time for league play.

If anyone would like to donate a few hundred dollars to go towards a new laptop for me, please call me ASAP!!!

A note about this weeks stats

There was an error with Adam and Ryan's averages from the beginning of the season. Looking at the database, I realized how the error happened, and it has been corrected. Both players now have updated averages. In the match between Adam/Ryan and Nick/Rob, we have all agreed to split the points 5 and 5. In addition, I have recalculated last weeks points for Adam and Ryan's match. The new stat sheet that has been posted has all of the correct information. The points and standings are correct, and we are on track.

I appreciate that I have people who will help me watch for errors. Thanks, and see you this week...

We do have a league that is playing right behind us this year, so it is imperitive that we keep up pace of play. It did not seem to be a problem after our first week, as I was in the first group and we were always waiting to hit. I just wanted to make sure that everyone is aware of this.

The 2010 League Schedule is now available for download over to the right side of the website's screen with the other league files.

As a side note -
In the past, it has always been customary to allow the League President and the League Secretary to tee off first and second, as a matter of courtesy for their efforts over their terms of service, and to allow them to be set up and ready in the club house when the rest of the league comes in. This year, the President and Secretary have waived that priviledge, and as a result, the tee box order has been totally randomized (and made as fair as possible).
Additionally, it would be courteous on your part to stick around and see if you've won any prize money so the Secretary doesn't have to track it for you!

At this point, we have roughly three weeks before our first night. Hope you are all preparing! See you all soon.

A few years ago, I decided I wanted to know more stats about my game and where I needed to concentrate on (shut up you guys). I ended up writing a pretty extensive excel spreadsheet to help track my rounds. Over the last few years it has developed into a handy tool, and I thought I would throw it up here for you to check out. I play on a Monday league as well as our Thursday league, so my game tracker has both courses listed. This year Aries has moved to Giant Oaks, and I have rewritten the spreadsheet to include that course.
I am making the tracker available for you to download, free of charge (because I'm such a nice guy)! However, use it at your own risk - that means if you screw up the formulas, I'm not fixin' it. You can download another copy and start fresh, or re-write the formulas on your own. I have included instructions on the first tab - please make your life easier and read them!!!

The league application for the 2010 season is now available for download. It can be found on the sidebar to the right. I will be mailing out hard copies by snail mail this week.

If you know of anyone that wants to join the league, please direct them to this website.

The cost has gone up slightly this year, and was due to moving from Whiteford Valley to Giant Oaks. Your league position is held by your rsvp fee, and the remainder is due on the first night of play. Your rsvp fee is due by April 4th.

2010 subs list

A note about the subs list for the upcoming season. It has been suggested that I put a link up to the subs list on the website, so people can download it and find a sub if they need one and don't have the list. This is a great idea!

However, the subs list obviously has phone numbers on it, which I do not want to post publicly. I thought I could password protect this file, and give everyone a password to access it. I found out that I cannot do this without paying $10 a month to the file server. I want to keep the file server intact, so I have decided not to post the subs list on the website.

As an option, if anyone wants a copy of the subs list, I will be happy to email it directly to you. Also, I will have extra copies available on the first night of league play. I will give these to league members only.

Additionally, two past members have told me to be sure and include them on the subs list for 2010 - Terry Koral and Tom Tinta. They both are very interested in subbing when needed!

The 2010 season approaches!

Greetings to all! I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season! Well here we are, now in the year 2010, the PGA season has begun, we are well into January, and in a short time from now I will be mailing out those letters to the officers for our annual meeting of the minds! Those letters will be going out shortly, so officers - watch your mailboxes and this website.

This year is going to bring many changes. The most notable will be our course change to Giant Oaks. We have a new President of the league. We will be loosing some people, but maybe we can pick up a few new ones too (always willing to have more $$$ added to the skins kitty)! I have updated the website, as I always do in the middle of snow season when I am sitting around board out of my skull. Speaking of changes and the officers meeting, I will most likely be changing the location of the meeting as well (get a grip Pat). :)

I hope everyone likes the new colors and changes on the site. Is someone organizing a simulator date at Tamaron? I look forward to seeing everyone, and I will be getting myself geared up for the season pretty quick -

A word about Giant Oaks

As I said in the previous post, I have signed a contract with Giant Oaks for the 2010 season. I wanted to post some additional information for the league members:

The league fees will remain the same for the 2010 season at $400. This will allow us to cover our standard closest to the pin prizes, mid-season outing prizes, and end of season prizes. Todd Brieschke is again sponsoring the league in 2010, which will cover our long drive contests. Thanks again to Todd.

If you are a member at Giant Oaks, please let me know.

The Giant Oaks cart fees are $7.50 for a half cart. Yes, they do have half carts, so if your partner is a no show, you only pay for your half.

Make up rounds: If your match needs to play later the following week to make up a match, I MUST go into the clubhouse and get a rain check for you. Then the following week you can go and make up your round by presenting the rain check.

Preleague is $6 plus cart fee. You should be at the course to play preleague no later than 3pm to avoid other leagues. The $6 preleague fee is alot cheaper than Whitefords preleague rate.

In speaking with Carol (the owner of Giant Oaks), it will be imperative that we keep up speed of play in 2010. We will have a league going off in front of us AND right behind us, so lets just adopt the mentality of keeping up with the group ahead of us, and we'll be ok, ok? Ok!

I'll be sending out letters in the winter for our spring officers meeting. Be prepared for a different location for this meeting.

End of Season Notes for 2009

I would like to thank everyone that participated in this years league. Without you, we would not have a league to begin with. I would like to cover a few items here...

At the end of season outing, we had a tie for first place between the following two teams:
Tom Tinta, Dave Johnson, Bob Reese, and Todd Brieschke at -5
-and-
Scott Pittman, Rob Eisenmann, and Russ Bohland also at -5

Third place goes to:
John Meyer, Nick Koelsch, Andy Welch, and Terry Fisher at -4

Last place goes to:
Mike Nagy Jr., Dale Pittman, RC Morrison, and "Superstar" Ed Doria at -3

We are obviously moving the league next year to Giant Oaks in Temperance, MI. Because of this decision, we are loosing some people. One of those we are loosing is our President, Tom Tinta. First, I would like to again thank Tom for his years of service to the league. He has been an asset to us all, and Tom, if you're reading this - we're gonna miss ya - keep it in the short grass!
That being said, we have elected Mike Nagy Jr. as our new President for 2010! When elected, Mike had that "deer in the headlights" look, so hopefully it has sunk in by now! Here is a list of our current 2010 officers:

First, congrats to our second half winners - Dave and Todd - who won in a sudden death event! They will be playing John and Tom for the 2009 League Championship this week.

The rest of us will be playing a 4 man stableford. I have not yet determined the pairings for this event due to heavy work load. I will most likely get to this tonight. As soon as I have them figured I will post them here.

A reminder: Our end of season outing is Sept. 12th with a 9:45am tee time.

Here we are at the end of the 2009 season! Can you believe it? Just seems like we started the season a few short weeks ago...
Just a note on what's happening - Next week is position night to determine the second half champs. They will play the first half champs for the season title on Sept 3rd.
On Sept 12th we will have our end of season outing. We will be playing at Heatherdowns CC, and our banquet will follow at Conn-Weis post on Alexis Rd.

Midseason scrambles update

This week marks our midseason scrambles. Due to the smaller league size this year, we will play the following format -

A 2 man scrambles, with the teams being the normal season teams (play with your own partner). The top 3 teams will be eligible for prize money. I will handicap the teams at 40% (player A avg + player B avg x .40 = shots given/taken). I will make some sort of random pairings for this event.

Mike Jr. will not be here, and Andy is getting a sub, but Andy's mother is not doing well, so he may not be here either. Prayers to Andy and his family. Tom and John will not be here either.

The passing of a friend

It is with regrets that I am making this post. One of our oldest members of the league has passed away - Jim Wilcox. I spoke with his partner Wes today, who informed me that Jim passed away Saturday night around 9pm. Wes said the preliminary arrangements are for a showing at Walker Funeral Home this Thursday at 1pm. I would suggest for you to check with the Blade obits for details.

I have had the priviledge of knowing Jim for the last 7 years, as long as I have been on the league. Jim was always a kind and good friend to me, willing to help and advise as I needed it. Jim was on the league for well over 40 years, and was a league sponsor for many of those years. I appreciated Jims humor, and his friendship as a fellow golfer. I have a few pictures to post in memory of Jim - he will certainly be missed by many of us.

Another decision

Since I have been granted temporary absolution by the president Tom Tinta, I, the Sith Lord of the league, have made another command decision:

This week, we are playing the Blue Front, and I am mixing up the long drive and closest to the pin holes from their traditional locations. Closest to the pin hole will be #3, and long drive senior and junior will be #8.

If we do not get rained out this week, my reign of power will be over, and we can discuss the hole changes after the round.

I have posted both of these over to the right side of the screen available for you to download. On the roster, I have stripped out the addresses and phone numbers for each members security.

Pre-season updates

Greetings all.
I have some updates on the league, and most of this is not good (as a matter of fact, none of it is). I'll try to keep this brief and to the point.

1) The course is in the process of changing our starting course, which means our schedule will be adjusted. I will post the new one as soon as I get it made up. Our starting date and time has not changed.

2) I have not had any luck recruting any new teams.

3) We have had two more people drop out for the season. Bob Cline and Jim Wilcox were going to be partners because Wes was not going to play this year. They have both dropped off the league for this year.

A) Bob Cline had an accident with a piece of machinery and nearly lost a hand. I am still kind of sketchy on the details, but he has decided to heal this summer.

B) With the permission of Jim, I am sorry to announce that Jim has lymphoma cancer. He has been on chemo and treatments for several weeks. Jim has had this since last summer, but has chosen not to let anyone know until now. Please keep Jim in your prayers, and I will update as I know more. He is fighting this to the best of his ability, and he believes he may be able to sub later in the season.

4) This brings us to an even number of people and teams - 16 people/8 teams. I will adjust the schedule, and post shortly as I said.

I know that none of this is good, but lets have a good season. See you in a few weeks.

Greetings!
We had our meeting for the league officers tonight. I will be mailing out our season schedule on Monday or Tuesday of this week. I am waiting to see if I can fill a slot to make an even number of teams, or if the proxy team will be playing this year. I will also be posting the schedule at the first part of the week on this site for download.

We now have 18 players, but I am working on 20. I can accomodate 36 players, but judging by tonights meeting, it sounds like all leagues are way down this year due to the economy.

Membership standings

It appears we're going to have a slim league this year. At last count, we are at 17 players. I'm not sure who Jim Wilcox will be having for a partner.

I believe this is due mostly to the economy. The comments I've gotten are things like "I can't afford it", or, "I'm only playing once a week this year" - things like that.

That's ok. This league isn't going anywhere, and will survive just fine. When the economy gets back on track, the league will rebuild itself. I suspected this would happen, so hang in there - it's still going to be a blast!

As I get the season underway on my end, I need to update you on a few items.

The applications are being put in the mail no later than Saturday. If you know anyone that wants to join the league, we do have some openings, so get their info to me as soon as you can, or have them email me. If you need another app, it is available on the sidebar to the right ------->

Next, I spoke with Nelson at the course today. Whiteford Valley is officially open for play as of today, and it's dry enough that they are letting carts out!

As far as our league officers meeting at the course, Nelson is not going to have it until the first week in April. We have a tentative start date of April 23rd, so this means, once again, I'm into crunch time to get things organized and kicked off. I will get the schedules out sometime around the second week of April.

I'm really looking forward to the start of the golf season - my favorite time of year! See you soon!

New sponsor

Our league has a new sponsor this year - Aries Engineering! Thanks to Todd Brieschke for picking us up. We really appriciate your support Todd. Obviously we're changing our name because of this.

The only two things that will not change are the website url, and the bank accounts name. When you send your check for your league fees, you will still make it out to M&N Controls. This may change next year, but not this year.

Applications will be mailed soon, or you can download the new 2009 application by clicking on the link to the right.

Hi all!
We've had our officers meeting and have a few minor rules changes. I also understand that with the new webpage layout, I do not have a link to the rules and other paperwork and links for the league. I am going to try and remedy all of this by this weekend. I have been slammed with work, but have a few hours this weekend that I will try and make useful and not be a slacker!

I've not yet heard of the league meeting date at the course. This is where I get my start date and starting course. I'll pass along the info when I get it.

I'd like to see the league grow a little bit this year (and I don't mean some of your bellies), so if you know anyone that wants to play, have them email me or call me.

Dear Officers:

GREAT NEWS! The 2009 golf season is about to begin! Of course, we begin the season with our annual officers meeting. This year’s winter meeting will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Hooters on Monroe St. near Harvest Lane.

I am taking the family to Walt Disney World from February 5th – 10th, which conflicts with our normal meeting schedule. To allow everyone to attend, we have settled on the above date.

We will go over the budget, and since we will review the entire rules set, I ask you to review last year’s rules for possible changes. You may bring up any rules or format changes either for the league or the special 4 man team nights, even if only for debate purposes.

A copy of last years rules can be found on our website (address is listed below).

Last year we had 26 members in the league. I will inform Whiteford Valley that we currently plan to have 28 players, but we need to have some flexibility. I can accommodate anywhere from 28 to 36 players. But, 32 works out best. If we have an odd number, I will bring back the proxy team of Thing 1 and 2. If you know anyone that would like to join the league, please give them my phone number and have them contact me right away!

Tee Times will be handled the same way as last year with 4-somes showing up early being aloud to play ahead in the order.

Obviously, I've change the way the site looks. I've found a 3 column template that I thought looks and feels alot better than the last one. It also allows me to put more information on the page, and lets you find things easier.

End of season

Well, the end of the 2008 season is here and gone! I can't believe it went as fast as it did...

Congrats to the team of John Meyer, Joe Smith, Andy Welch, and Ed Altweis for finishing in first place at our end of season outing with an 11 under par - nice job fellas!

I am working on closing and balancing the books for the season, and expect to have this done within the next few weeks.

I'm looking forward to our winter/spring meeting for the 09 season. As usual, I will be contacting everyone involved in all due time. As a side note, Jim Wilcox is going to call around and get some fee information at other courses, just in case Whiteford decides to go belly-up.

Please check in often, as I will be posting pictures and stuff over the winter season. If you have never received an email from me, chances are I don't have your email address, so if you send me an email, I can add you to my address book. Click here to email me!

Greetings!
Ok, after all the phone calling etc., here are the end of season pairings for this Saturday. This takes into account the subs, and also one adjustment for long hitters that were inadvertantly paired together.

Our tee time is at 9am on Saturday at Tamaron, so please be there early.

Also, I would like to propose a $5 donation per man to be put into the skins pot. Please give this to your team captain. (We need to try and keep Tom Tinta from collecting them all. After this season, he's going to have to file his skins winnings on his 08 taxes).

Our sponsor, Mike Nagy Sr., has requested that we play a normal scrambles, so that will be our format this weekend.

While I have your attention (and this being the end of the season), I would like to say a few words: Thanks to everyone for their support this year. I can't believe this season is over already - it went so fast! This is a great league, and I really look forward to it each week. I will be making frequent posts throughout the off season, so be sure to check in to this site often. I have some pictures to put up and stuff, so this site will be active throughout the winter. Greetings! We still have yet to play our end of season round at Tamaron, coming up on Oct. 4th at 9am. I will be calling everyone in the next few days to gets comittments on who will be there, and I will most likely have to rework the pairings.

First of all, I would like to congratulate Adam Wood and Ryan Held - they have won the Championship Title for the 2008 M&N Controls Golf League season! Great job guys!!!

Secondly, by a vote in the clubhouse, we will be playing a scrambles format for tomorrows end of season outing. I have input all subs playing tomorrow into the "mix", and have come up with the pairings:

NOTE: IN CASE OF RAIN
I've talked with Tamaron. EVERYONE NEEDS TO SHOW UP AT THE COURSE, regardless of rain or not. If there is a chance that we can play, we will try to fit it in! However, if we get rained out, we have a make up date of October 4th. That is the soonest I could get.

On another note:
After last nights Stableford, I paid the top 3 teams. I heard some comments about the lower amount of prize money, and I want to address this issue. First of all, if you will recall, at the mid-season outing, I paid ALL teams (normally that event only pays the top 3). Secondly, you need to consider that we only have 26 players this year, not 32 or 36 as in years past. Therefore, the prize pots are not going to be as big. Third, it is my job to make sure our funds stay within budget, and that is what I'm doing. I do not want to have to "pass the hat" at the end of the season. For tomorrows outing, I have over $400 budgeted for prizes, which is the same as last year. If anyone wants to see my ledger and bank statements, I will be more than happy to sit down with you to go over them.

Here are some housekeeping items...

As of this posting, we have one makeup round to be held before the position night matches can be determined. Unfortunatly, this makeup round will not be taking place until this Thursday, just before our league round. Therefore, I will not know the match ups until minutes before the position night round takes place. Sorry, but that's the only fair way to do it.

On Thursday, when I get the scorecard for the makeup round, I will process the cards for position night and hand them out.

Also, I have decided that the Stableford round will pay out to the top three (3) winners only. If you remember, I paid ALL teams at the mid-season scrambles. At our end of season outing, ALL teams will recieve a payout. I just wanted to clarify this point before anyone asked me...

Before posting the stats, I would like to make the following comment:

A 9-hole round lasting 2 hours is NOT out of line. This is the concensus of several league officers, not just me. I am not sure why some of you have the urge to rush through your round on a beautifully sunny day. You obviously aren't on your way back to your jobs, because you're getting back to the clubhouse just to sit at a table.

If play is too slow for you, please contact a member of the grevience comittee. They are: Pat Brocki, Jim Wilcox, Ed Doria, and Bob Johnson.

If you find that you still have to run your mouth out on the course, then I will contact the grevience comittee FOR YOU!
